From the Matsushita stable (National / Panasonic / Technics) this mid 80s SL-N5 is a great compact turntable. It plays full size records, but has a footprint of just 315mm x 315mm x 79mm!
It is fully automatic in operation, a huge benefit to those with unsteady hands, or lacking the confidence of working a manual turntable. Simply place a record on the platter, and press start. The turntable itself will determine whether the record be 7”, 10”, or 12”, and move the tone arm to the beginning, lower it and commence playing. At the end of a record the reverse will occur, with the tone arm returning to rest then the unit will shut down.
Many turntables of this size are fitted with an inferior ceramic cartridge, but this unit has a genuine magnetic cart (in fact it uses the same stylus as many of its bigger Technics brothers), and further, has an inbuilt phono pre-amplifier which can be switched in to use if your amplifier doesn’t have a “phono” input.
The polycarbonate hinged lid is removeable.
This turntable has been serviced, it comes with a brand new stylus, belt and all the required cables.
