This AIWA AD-6550 is in absolutely spotless condition. The AIWA cassette deck have an extremely good reputation. One reason is certainly the impressive build quality. Even the cassette tray is made out of solid aluminium, covered by a 4mm thick glass cover. All knobs are out of solid metal and even the beauty plate inside the cassette dwell is made out of stainless. The front is just beautiful with two backlit VU meters.
But what makes these decks are special is the performace. There are not many decks around that sound that good like this AD-6550 does. Even on simple pre-recorded tapes it blew us away what the AIWA was able to make out of it!
To get this cassette deck performing within original specs a large service was carried out:
- Replacement of 80% of the capacitors (whole power supply and osciallator rebuild, caps anlong signal path replaced as well)
- Replacement of Capstan Belt
- Cleaning and lubrication of capstan shaft with high quality synthetic oils
- Cleaning of Heads
- Demagnetisation of heads and capstan
- Calibration of record and playback levels
- Calibration of BIAS
- Speed Calibration
- Frequency Test
